Make Every Woman Count is seeking Volunteer Interns who are motivated and passionate about advocating for African women's rights.

Make Every Woman Count (MEWC) is an African women's rights organisation that serves as a (primarily online) platform to inform, conduct advocacy through evidence-based research, ​and provide training to women’s organisations and young activists to strengthen women’s leadership capacities to influence policy- and decision-making.

MEWC is seeking interns who are motivated and passionate about advocating for women's rights and who have the drive and skills to conduct desk research and produce informative and empowering social media content, blog posts, policy briefs, and other advocacy and communications materials.

The internship provides an opportunity to be involved in research, policy briefs and report writing and analysis, monitoring, administrative work, website content production, and significant involvement in our advocacy projects, such as our Women's Political Participation Monitoring (PPM) project.

Internship Duties

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

• Collaborate with MEWC’s research team in conducting desk research and literature reviews.
• Contribute to analysis through an intersectional feminist lens.
• Identify & research relevant topics and write evidence-based articles to be featured in MEWC’s Blogs.
• Assist with the preparation, review and publication of MEWC’s reports, policy briefs, articles, etc.
• Monitor elections in Africa and produce reports analysing women's participation as part of MEWC's Political Participation Monitoring (PPM) project.
• Interns will also be encouraged to participate in other projects being pursued and implemented within the organisation. They will be a very important addition to all of the project teams.

Qualifications

You are a highly motivated and passionate undergraduate or recent graduate with a strong interest or background in women's rights issues, with the ability to keep tight deadlines and commitments.

You also have:

• Strong research and analytical skills
• Excellent English writing, editing, and proofreading skills (the same skills in French are an asset)
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently as part of a globally-distributed remote team
• Excellent ability to work with all levels of staff and collaborate with individuals from diverse backgrounds
• Good problem-solving skills and the ability to learn, adapt and thrive in a changing technical environment
• Capacity and diligence to work remotely
• Computer proficiency; familiarity with remote collaboration tools (Slack, Asana, Zoom, Google Suite) as well as social media platforms and content production tools (Canva, Visme) would be an asset
• Strong desire and commitment to learn new and strengthen existing research and communication skills

This internship is unpaid and home-based, offering flexibility from wherever you are in the world.

The internship requires a commitment of a minimum of 16 hours per week, or at least two full days a week, for 3 - 6 months. The team operates within the GMT+0 timezone; however, this internship is open worldwide to the right candidates.
