WOMEN'S clubs in Choma engaged in various empowerment projects have applauded Government for its continued disbursement of grants to enhance their productivity.
The clubs are impressed that Government, through the Ministry of Community, Development, Mother and Child Health, had shown commitment to improving the living standards of women.
Giving a vote of thanks on Wednesday when the ministry handed over cheques amounting to more than K30, 000 to four women's clubs, a representative, Patricia Kamwi said the resources would help the women boost their projects such as chicken and livestock rearing.
"As women in Choma, we are happy with what Government is doing to uplift our living standards.
"These grants have helped us to improve our projects as we look after vulnerable children," Ms Kamwi said.
The latest four women's clubs to receive the grants were Henwood Foundation, which received K10, 000, Tujane at K10, 000, Basimbi at K5, 000, and Hachikombe which was given K7, 000.
This barely comes a few days after 11 other women's clubs in Choma received a grant of about K100, 000 from the Government to help them run their projects.
Choma District community development officer, Esther Siyumbwa said the Government would continue exploring workable mechanisms to improve the living standards of women.
Ms Siyumbwa said the disbursement of grants showed that the Government was committed to eradicating poverty among women.
She urged the recipients to prudently utilise the funds to expand their projects.
Choma District Commissioner Bernadette Hamweemba called on the women in the district to form more viable clubs and access empowerment funds from the Government.
Ms Hamweemba said the funds were essential in creating a platform to empower households in line with Government's desire to see more women contribute to national development.
