Some 20 Kiambu women who lost in the March 4 elections have asked President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta to appoint them to government. They said it is only fair for Uhuru to appoint them because they spent their resources to campaign for elective posts.
"It will be unfair to give jobs to people in the streets and leave out women who were very involved in the political campaigns," said Terry Kairu, who lost in the race for senator.
The women who met at Freedom Corner in Nairobi yesterday said they had also drummed up support for Uhuru in their campaigns.
Five women were elected in Kambu county - women's representative Annah Gatheca, parliamentarians Esther Gathogo (Ruiru), Alice Nganga (Thika Town) and ward representatives in Thika town constituency Cecilia Wamaitha and Muthoni Hussein.
Mumbi Supuu who failed to clinch the Kikuyu parliamentary seat said they are afraid they will be ignored. She said they may not be allocated of county jobs. "We congratulate Uhuru for the win but we are pleading with him to remember us (women) in the allocation of jobs," said Mumbi.
