The Women's International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA), Ghana in collaboration with the Ministries of Transport, Trade & Industry and Women and Children's Affairs, is organizing the 2nd African Women in Shipping Conference, from 15th - 17th June 2011 at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel, Accra.
In a release issued and signed by the President of WISTA, Mrs Naa Dedei Aryeetey, it said the three-day conference which is on the theme: 'Africa's Maritime Trade and Transport Industry: a catalyst for Sustainable Economic Growth' is intended to bring together women in Africa's maritime industry to dialogue, interact and exchange ideas on the development of Africa's economy through its maritime trade and transport.
The conference which will open today also look at how best to optimize Africa's maritime trade and transport potential and the role of women in shipping.
The release added that there will be a line up of distinguished speakers who will be presenting on some of the issues pertinent to Africa's Maritime trade and transport. Participants will join in the lively discussions throughout the conference to formulate strategies that can further progress the industry.
There will be the opportunity to socialize and network with an array of other conference events including a welcome reception, a gala dinner, a cruise on Ghana's Volta Lake and other interesting events.
Inaugurated on 22nd July, 2010, WISTA Ghana has the main objectives of promoting the role of women in the Maritime industry and improving professional standards in the Maritime industry.
