After being awarded the 2015 'Women of Distinction Global Leadership Award in Politics' by Celebrating Women International (CWI) in the Paradise Island, The Bahamas, Malawi former president Joyce Banda will on Thursday be guest of honour at a global gathering of women leaders in Accra, Ghana.

Banda's media liaison officer Tusekele Mwanyongo confirmed what is reported in Ghana's online media that Malawi former president will also help launch "Elect Her In Africa" [Ehia] organisation.

The sole motive of the EHIA initiative is to encourage women to run for elected offices in Africa and to encourage governments to appoint women in various positions.

Ehia is an initiative of the Joyce Banda Foundation and Africa Union/Diaspora Africa Forum.

Banda will be joining some of the most influential women from across the African continent at the International SHEROES Forum includingformer first lady of Ghana, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings; Senator Geraldine Doe-Sheriff of Liberia, Senator Binta Masi Garba of Nigeria and Madam Mary Broh, Mayor of Monrovia in Liberia.

It will bring together Policy Makers, CEOs, Legislators, Entrepreneurs, Politicians, Doctors, Attorneys, Bankers and Gender Activists to dialogue on issues related to gender equality and explore ways to advance women's leadership in Africa.

One of the organisers, Flossy Tachie-Menson, said the Forum will connect some of the most influential women leaders on the African continent.

She said the principal mission is the advancement of "the feminist movement and strengthening the influence of women in business, government, academia and society in general."

The forum will feature panel discussions, and interactive sessions, and offers the opportunity to network with powerful women and create new friendships.

There will be three-panel sessions on topics such as Boosting Women as a Driving Force For Social Change, Advancing Women's Participation in Politics to Drive the Economic Development and Future of Leadership - Invest in Women, Change the World.
