MONROVIA - The Gbowee Peace Foundation Africa (GPFA) has unveiled a US$3M plan for the construction of a technical institute on the Robertsfield Highway, outside Monrovia.

According to the President and Founder of the Foundation, Madam Leymah Robertha Gbowee, the institute will provide technical and other professional skills to be identified for females from 7th to 12th grades.

She said the construction of the institute is intended to help advance the education of young Liberian female students.

The 2011 Nobel Peace Prize winner was speaking on Friday, January 31, 2014 at a ceremony marking the 2nd Anniversary and Fundraising Gala of the GPFA.

The ceremony took place at the Executive Pavilion on Broad Street in Monrovia.

“You have seen a lot of challenges and tonight we are going to launch the AED Technical Institute for Girls. We, the board, has endorsed that we launch this technical institute in her honor and the construction commences this year. I have bought a five-acre of land and tonight, I will like to turn it over to the foundation and that land will be used for the proposed AED Technical Institute for Girls,” she emphasized.

The nobel laureate then  reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to providing scholarships for deserving female students.

According to her, the provision of scholarship to scholars is a “practical way of reconciling the nation.”
