A judge in the Eastern Cape High Court judge, Thandi Norman has raised the bar with a "therapy order" for a 10-year-old who was raped by her 46-year-old uncle. The child will receive counselling every month for two years.

Counsellors will report back to the courts on the child's progress every six months. According to reports, Judge Norman noted that normally in criminal proceedings, once a sentence is imposed "that is the end of the trial". She added that "If nothing is said about the child victim other than condemning the unlawful act itself, the child will go back home with no support from the justice system." The girl's uncle was sentenced to 25 years in jail.
