On Wednesday, 19 November 2014, the Northern Cape High court sentenced Rankadi Emmanuel Tsilo (43) to 14 years imprisonment for the murder of his wife.

On 08 March 2014, the accused and his wife, Nthabiseng Anna Tsilo (37) were arguing. The argument resulted in a physical altercation between the two. The accused assaulted and stabbed his wife with an unknown object. Neighbours heard them fighting in their shanty and went to assist. The door was locked and the neighbours summoned the husband's mother for her intervention.

When the woman entered the shanty, she found the victim lying on the floor. She was badly bludgeoned and bleeding from her face. The victim was still alive and was taken to hospital however she later succumbed to her injuries. The suspect handed himself over to the police the following day. The autopsy revealed that the wife suffered severe head injuries.

The Galeshewe Cluster Commander, Major General Kolie Mathys commends the investigating officer, Detective Warrant Officer Basil Buys for his excellent investigation of the case especially as we approach the 16 Days of Activism Campaign for no violence against women and children. Sentences such as this are a clear indication that the SAPS works hard to eradicate crimes against women and children as this remains one of our priorities.
